Just like how one is cautious about what kind of food is ingested into your body, knowing what goes onto your skin daily is important as well. Prolong usage of any chemicals on your body could lead to unforeseen circumstances.
This is why Wild Harvest Care is a strong supporter of naturally made products. Products that are made with natural and chemical free ingredients are not only gentle on your skin, it also provides added nutrition and promotes overall well-being.
Products containing chemicals are cheaper to produce as these chemicals ‘fill out’ the product to produce more volume. Chemicals, though making the product cheaper, actually do more harm than good. They absorb into the skin, creating toxins in your body and could lead to diseases such as cancer.
More people in this day are moving away from chemical products and embracing natural ingredient products. Consumers must be careful of what is considered, many others will say that they are chemical free when in fact they are not.
100% natural products are generally more expensive; this is due to the tedious extraction process and the process of crafting. ALL skin care and body care products need preservatives, even those with all natural ingredients. However, we need to understand that there are good and bad preservatives. We use only the good preservatives available to ensure that our body care products contain all the goodness it says it would provide.
OUR Products are made differently:
- In most of our products we use an aloe vera base which is prepared separately
- We add the extracts and oils into the aloe vera extract without the need for excess heat and unlike others, our ingredients are all captured within the product with very minimal loss.
Just to share some chemicals commonly used in your everyday body care products
Sodium lauryl (ether) sulfate (SLS, SLES):
This surfactant can be found in more than 90% of personal care and cleaning products (think foaming products). SLS's are known to be skin, lung, and eye irritants. A major concern about SLS is its potential to interact and combine with other chemicals to form nitrosamines, a carcinogen. These combinations can lead to a host of other issues like kidney and respiratory damage. They can be found in shampoo, body wash/cleanser, mascara and acne treatment.
Used as preservatives, found in many products. Linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, reproductive toxicity when it is overused.
Used in some hair products for shine and as a moisture barrier in some lip balms, lip sticks and moisturizers. A petroleum product can be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which may cause cancer.
Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate is actually a skin and eye irritant. It smells highly rancid, and even at concentrations of less than 1% can burn and irritate the skin. Not recommended for sensitive skin.
Mineral oil is a petroleum derivative that coats the skin like saran wrap, which prevents the skin from breathing, absorbing and excreting. It also slows the skin’s natural cell development, causing the skin to age prematurely. Note that baby oil is 100% mineral oil – and 100% bad for your baby’s sensitive skin.
Isopropyl Alcohol is used in hair color rinses, body rubs, hand lotion and aftershave lotions. Scientists believe that it has the ability to destroy intestinal flora, leaving the body’s major organs open to parasites, and thus to cancers. Beyond attacking the intestinal flora, isopropyl alcohol can cause headaches, dizziness, mental depression, nausea, vomiting, and coma.
